We always tell our customers about the importance of an AC tune-up, but not many people actually know what’s involved with this important appointment. The goal of yearly maintenance is to inspect the system to ensure it’s operating efficiently, reliably and safely and to help prevent any air conditioner problems or breakdowns during the season.
During the winter, dirt and other debris can make its way into the system and cause damage, so a technician will visually inspect the unit and clean key components. They’ll also check to see if any rodents damaged sensitive electrical wiring that would pose a safety or operation hazard.
Proper coolant levels are crucial for air conditioner operation so it needs to be checked prior to use. During an annual AC tune-up, the system will be examined for leaks and refrigerant can be recharged if needed. Please note: R22 refrigerant has been phased out, so if your system is still using this type of refrigerant, we’re not able to recharge the AC.
You can also expect a technician to evaluate the blower motor and blower belt to ensure it’s in proper working order, inspect capacitors for signs of wear and flush the condensate drain.
This is also the perfect time to ask the tech any questions you have about your air conditioner. If you’re unsure what type of filter you should be using or have concerns about your indoor air quality, a technician will take the time to answer any questions you may have and provide expert recommendations.
During an annual AC tune-up, you can expect a certified technician to inspect, evaluate and clean components of the air conditioner. This type of preventative air conditioner maintenance will provide peace-of-mind that you can reliably run your cooling system all summer long.
