Clark Griswold had some struggles getting his home ready for the holiday season. While his antics made for some good movie action, it can provide some valuable lessons for homeowners. Here are our home safety tips for the holidays—a la Clark Griswold.
|Be Smart with Electrical Cords
There are a number of things to plug in for the holidays—lights, inflatable lawn ornaments and extra crockpots and heat plates. Use a power cord with surge protection and make sure not to overload the sockets.
Don’t forget to change the furnace filter before a big gathering. Dirt, dust and grime can build up quickly and you want to ensure that your filter is clean and ready for an increase of guests in your home.
|Keep Pets Safe
There’s a lot of danger for your pets during the holiday season. From toxic plants to unstable Christmas trees, make sure you keep an eye on your pets. Remember—sometimes it’s best just to keep your dog or cat confined to a bedroom during the height of festivities.
Also, remember to adjust the temperature in your home prior to a large get-together. As more people crowd into your home, the ambient temperature of the room will rise. There’s nothing worse than having a home be too hot and everyone spilling outside to get comfortable.
