If you’ve ever gone to adjust your new modern WI-FI thermostat and noticed that it’s in recovery mode, this might make you feel nervous. If you don’t know what it means, this can make you feel like something is wrong with your thermostat or your HVAC system, like it’s recovering from a disaster. In reality, recovery mode is a very common feature in a new thermostat and once you know what it means, it’s not so scary after all.
What Is Recovery Mode?
Fortunately, recovery mode is nowhere near as pressing as the name suggests. Many new thermostats including the Ecobee go into recovery mode throughout the day, and basically, it means that your furnace or air conditioner is “recovering” from being in an energy-saving mode. This means that your thermostat is adjusting the temperature of your home to something cooler or warmer than the outside temperature (essentially it means that it’s doing its job). During this period, your thermostat has turned on your air conditioner or furnace and is keeping the home comfortable.
Reasons Why Your Thermostat May Be In Recovery Mode
There are several reasons why a thermostat may be in recovery mode. The most common reason is that it is programmed to do so. If your system has recovery mode enabled and it is set to change the temperature of your home throughout the day, you will see recovery mode pop up as it changes temperatures. If your system does not have recovery mode enabled and you begin to see recovery mode turn on and off throughout the day, or it is constantly in this mode, then it may be indicative of an issue with the thermostat itself.
How To Change Your Thermostat From Recovery Mode
Sometimes, when your thermostat is showing recovery mode but you don’t have recovery mode enabled, it’s because your system has updated its settings since the last time you disabled recovery mode, and has automatically re-enabled it. This can be very easily remedied by going into your thermostat settings and disabling this mode once again. If recovery mode is disabled and you continue to see it, it may be time to call the experts at HAMCO for professional help as your system may be in disrepair.
