Pro Tip: Check the Furnace Filter
One of the best things you can do to maintain your furnace and indoor comfort is to regularly check the furnace filter and replace as needed. Even if you’re using a filter rated to last longer than 30 days, we always advise checking the filter monthly.
There are a number of factors that could cause the furnace filter to build up with dust, debris and allergens faster than expected:
- Smoking indoors
- Exotic cooking
- Pets in the house
- Carpet, open shelves or lots of surfaces that can collect dust
- Lots of foot traffic with a large family or frequent guests
By getting into the habit of checking the furnace filter monthly, you’ll help ensure that it always stays clean, keeping the air inside healthy, and your furnace protected.
How to Change the Furnace Filter
- Turn off the power to the furnace
- Remove the old filter
- On the replacement filter, look for the arrow and make sure it’s installed so that the arrow faces the furnace (away from the return duct).
- Turn the furnace back on
We like to tell homeowners to keep a stock of filters at home, so when it comes time for replacement, it’s simple to swap an old filter for a new one. You can also write the date on the filter when installing, so you have a record of when it was last changed.
If you have any questions about what type of furnace filter you should be using or want to stock up on filters for your York or Daikin furnace, don’t hesitate to call or stop by the office.
